Two expert finishes from Mo Salah put Liverpool in control at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs’ injury list caught up with them, and there were boos at the half-time whistle. They are heading for a third La Liga defeat in four games and a fourth in seven, although it should be remembered that they won 2-0 last weekend.
44 min. Lloris parries away Elliott’s sharp long-range drive and dives to his left. It was a decent save because it bounced badly in front of him.
44 min Thiago’s long shot is well blocked by Kane, whose internal monologue must be rioting right now.

Alisson slotted the ball straight upfield to Dier, who tried to play it back to Lloris. It was a horribly wrong header, well wide of the keeper, and Salah was on it in an instant. He knelt the ball into space and deliciously tipped it over Lloris. That was freezing.

26 min There are some complaints from the home fans as Spurs get the ball in behind. Dier then suddenly plays a pass downfield to Sessegnon, who controls the ball and beats Alexander-Arnold in the same move. Konate comes in to make a nice interception.

21 min The game has been much more equal since Salah’s goal. Human nature is a funny old game.
19 minutes Spurs call for a penalty as Alexander-Arnold leans towards Sessegnon. Andy Madley isn’t interested, and a few Spurs players give him a sip. It was an unnecessary and risky challenge from Alexander-Arnold, especially as Sessegnon was going nowhere, and some referees would have given it. But it wasn’t a clear and obvious mistake.

18 min “Liverpool have been unique in Europe this season – they have been the only team to beat Newcastle, Man C and Napoli,” says Admir Pajic. “There’s still a bite in that old lion, even if the lion’s roar is louder in his den.
“As for Spurs, while they have long been living off the sheer brilliance of their forwards, it is interesting to note that none of the five goals they scored in their last two dramatic injury-time-off-return-wins was marked by none of those strikers. 15 min: Perisic hits the post! The dust almost equals out of nowhere. Kane crossed from the right to Perisic, whose header hit Alisson on the shoulder (I think) and deflected off the post. Moments later he made a slightly more comfortable save, this time from Hojbjerg’s 25-yard drop.

14 min Alexander-Arnold throws a delicious ball to Salah on the edge of the area. He controls it well but then slides a pass behind Firmino. It’s all Liverpool.
13 min This is the 12th time this season that Spurs have scored the opener.
It started with Robertson, who runs the game from left back. He sent a cross to Núñez, who controlled it in the stretch and left it carefully to Salah, 12 meters away. He stunned the ball a couple of meters off the ground and turned to volley past Lloris. It’s an excellent goal.

10 min Spurs have barely had the ball in the first 10 minutes. If you offered Antonio Conte the 0-0 after an hour, when he could perhaps cope with Moura and Kulusevski, he would kiss you with gratitude.

I know it’s raw and there’s plenty of it, but Nunez’s attitude is pretty awesome. He reminds me a bit, for richer and poorer, of Timo Werner at Chelsea.

4 min Perisic plays up front for Spurs, along with Harry Kane. Liverpool’s formation is pretty fluid, although I think it’s essentially a diamond midfield with Núñez and Salah as split forwards.

3 min: Good stop by Lloris! Life is never dull when Darwin Nunez is around. He charges into the box from the left, onto a good curling pass from Robertson, then runs around the bouncing ball and hits a shot from a tight angle that is spectacularly saved by Lloris. It was a comfortable enough save for a goalkeeper of his quality, but a very good effort from Núñez.
