Opposition Leader Matthew Guy remains cautious about current poll predictions for tonight’s election.
Speaking in Templestowe after casting his vote, Guy said he thought there would be a “more exaggerated” trend in this choice of booths changing from game to game as the day goes on.

As we reported earlier this morning, Labor is on course to hang on to power in Victoria, despite a late slump in its primary vote in the final days of an election campaign.
“The polls have been all over the place … especially the published polls, and I think we’ve seen that in other elections, both in South Australia and the federal election,” Mr Guy said.
“We prefer to look at the goals [polling] and our own material and research, rather than drawing broad samples across the state.

“It will be a longer count – you will get the booth results earlier, which may be very different from the final result, because what happens on the day may not be reflected in what happens during the pre-poll waves. [votes].”
Guy disagreed that the gap between him and Premier Daniel Andrews was too wide to close, citing the comebacks of former Victorian premiers Steve Bracks and Ted Baillieu, as well as WA’s Mark McGowan.
“Baillieu came back from a margin that was bigger, so look, these things have been done before in recent times and I’m sure we can do it tonight.”
When voters were asked to name the parties that would receive their preferences, Labor led by 53 to 47 per cent, enough for Andrews to remain first, but significantly less than the 59 to 41 split recorded in end of October
