US equities rebounded on Friday, ending a volatile week during which investors tried to reconcile a series of reports and earnings data that sometimes seemed to offer contradictory narratives about the economic outlook.
Major indices rebounded to end the week with a new round of bank gains and data showing retail sales had risen more than expected in June. They fell earlier in a new reading that showed inflation in another four-decade high and as some of the largest US banks posted disappointing quarterly results.
