Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to a five-year, $ 193 million contract extension. The deal also includes the Designated Rookie language that could increase the value of the deal to $ 231 million.
To qualify for the largest contract with 30% of the salary cap, Williamson must be an All-NBA, MVP or Defensive Player of the Year winner during the 2022-23 season.
The Pelicans are committed to Williamson even though the former first-team overall was lost all last season. In all, the talented striker has played just 85 games during his first three seasons in the NBA. But in those games, Williamson has shone. He averaged 25.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting more than 60% from the field.
