The Valorant Battle Pass for Episode 5, Act 2 is here, bringing with it a variety of new skins, cards, sprays, and companions-in-arms to Riot Games’ frenetic free-to-play FPS. There are Immortal skins for the Sheriff and Vandal, a new Piedra del Sol skin for the Phantom, and several additional cards and friends. Let’s break down this new Battle of Valorant.
WHAT’S IN THE VALORANT BATTLE STEP EPISODE 5 ACT 2?
Valorant’s new battle pass will launch on August 23rd, and according to producer Laura Baltz, it’s designed to evoke a central theme ahead of the start of the Valorant Champions event on September 2nd.
“This step was the first time we wanted to try to build a battle step around one central theme: myths and legends,” says Baltz. “We did this for a few reasons. We wanted the battle pass to reflect some of the things that were happening in Valorant and feel like a memorable part of that moment for players. Champions is right around the corner and not we can wait to see what legends are born from this.”
RATING BATTLE PASS EPISODE 5 ACT 2: SKINS
The Sheriff pistol is immortalized thanks to a new range of skins that add irregular patterns and a gold, red, blue or shiny brass color scheme, perfect for looking sleek and stylish while taking out some heads. The Immortalized Sheriff comes with the free portion of the battle pass. The Vandal Assault Rifle, however, which also comes in gold, blue, brass, and dark green, pays off. The Stinger and Guardian have also been immortalized, giving you a variety of weapon options if you want to sport this new skin.
There is also the Phantom, which along with the Melee, Judge, Ghost and Bucky has been equipped with the new Piedra del Sol skin. Chunky and colorful, it seems modeled after ancient Aztec architecture, especially the large Mesoamerican totem poles. Of all the new skins, this one is the most connected to the “myths and legends” element mentioned by Baltz, injecting some history and mystique into your kills.
RATING BATTLE PASS EPISODE 5 ACT 2: GUN BUDDIES
First up is the White Snake, a slippery, tortuous-looking snake that’s great for stealthy players. There’s also a Hummingbird, if you’re feeling a bit more fleet-footed, a Fast-Moving Agent, and a really cool Kitsune Mask. Our personal favorite is called Crunch the Numbers, a little pocket calculator, vital for adding up all those deaths (or, more often, for us, deaths).
There are also two small apples, one bright red, one gold, a nice addition to your new Immortalized skin, as well as a coin commemorating the release of Episode 5, Act 2. The most elaborate is probably Kiss the Frog, an adorable little amphibian perched. on a lily, with a crown. Finally, Completely Crackers is a small, round chicken egg, cracked in the middle. If you’re more of a spray-and-pray type wild agent, this would probably suit you.
RATING BATTLE PASS EPISODE 5 ACT 2 PLAYER CARDS:
The highlight here is definitely Spike Showdown, an homage to the beloved Spider-Man that points to the Spider-Man meme. We also recommend “KAY/O KO,” which features our favorite robotic agent taking out an opponent with Street Fighter-style health bars. There are several more player cards in Episode 5, Act 2, such as the elegant Rising Tide and the group photo style Meet Your Maker. We won’t spoil them all, but it goes without saying that your cards will look better than ever.
RATING BATTLE PASS EPISODE 5 ACT 2: SPRAYS
Again, there are dozens of new sprays – Icebox walls will look very vibrant. Our two favorites are called Guess That’s It, great for expressing your utter desperation in the face of a losing streak, and HeHeHe, a laughing little frog that’s sure to take down your enemies. There’s also a great one for Brimstone, but we won’t be giving it away.
