Ukrainian forces have launched counterattacks in the east and southeast of the country, a senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
Writing on Telegram on Monday evening, Oleksiy Arestovych said his country’s attempts to retake territory had extended beyond Kherson in the south, where it has claimed a series of small successes in recent days.
“Counteroffensive actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are being carried out not only in the south of Ukraine, but also in the east and southeast,” he said.
Arestovych added that “the start of counter-offensive actions in different sectors of the front on our part speaks of a change in the overall situation”.
The governor of eastern Luhansk province said Ukrainian troops have won a “point” in the region. Without elaborating, Serhiy Haidai said Kyiv’s troops had thwarted Russian attacks and made small gains.
Thousands of kilometers away in eastern Russia, President Vladimir Putin inspected the “Vostok” military exercise together with his Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu.
