Two men have died after being shot dead in Brampton on Sunday morning.
Peel regional police say they were called to an address on Gateway Boulevard near Queen Street East at 2:01 a.m. to report gunshots.
They arrived and found two men with multiple gunshot wounds.
One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was rushed to hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
Peel Regional Police spokesman Charles Payette told CP24 that there was a Father’s Day event at the address, which hosts the Chandni Convention Center.
“We call on anyone with video footage of the incident to contact investigators,” he said.
Payette said officers believe there were “many” people around the center when the shots rang.
He said the first evidence suggests that shots were fired inside the premises.
But Chandni Convention Center manager Richard Marshall told CP24 that the shooting took place outside the venue when the Father’s Day event ended, and that he has surveillance camera footage to prove it.
“That happened outside: I’m the manager, I was there, nothing happened inside,” he said. “When I know (the suspects and the victims) came from some other event.”
He said he witnessed the video of the shooting that took place in the parking lot of the site and that the images from the 32 cameras on the site are already with homicide detectives.
He said he disagreed with the police version of what happened.
“This is a classy facility, we have a clean business, everything we do, we do above all else.”
Police say homicide detectives and a mobile command center are at the scene.
A number of officers were listening to the surrounding buildings and securing the images from the surveillance cameras.
The convention center previously saw violence in December 2021 when two people were seriously injured in a shooting.
No suspicious information was immediately available.
