Donald Trump’s tax returns will finally be released on Friday, bringing the former president’s finances and business practices firmly under the spotlight at a time when he also faces calls for criminal charges in connection with the riots on January 6 at the United States Capitol.
The House Ways and Means Committee voted to release the documents last week as it revealed that Mr Trump’s taxes were audited only once during his four years in office, although the audits annual were mandatory.
The release of the tax returns comes after the Jan. 6 House Select Committee investigating Trump’s role in the Capitol riots released another batch of interview transcripts on Thursday.
The latest release featured some big names from Trumpworld, including Donald Trump Jr, Kimberly Guilfoyle and Stephen Miller.
There are also White House insiders who turned against Trump, such as Stephanie Grisham and Alyssa Farah Griffin, as well as other key figures such as Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Among the revelations, Ms. Griffin testified that Jared Kushner personally ordered the Biden administration to be excluded from planning for Covid-19 in the wake of the 2020 election.

In the transcript of Ms Griffin’s interview with the panel, she had some harsh words for former colleague McEnany.
“I’m a Christian woman, so I’ll say this … Kayleigh is a liar and an opportunist,” she said.

Jan. 6 transcript reveals it took five hours to get Trump to retweet about shooting looters
It took a White House aide five hours to convince then-President Donald Trump to retract his infamous tweet about the looters’ shooting, according to dramatic transcripts of the Jan. 6 interview.
The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday released a trove of new transcripts of interviews with several key Trumpworld figures.
Among the documents was testimony from former White House press officer Alyssa Farah Griffin.
In her statement to the panel, Ms. Griffin recalled an incident in June 2020 at the height of racial justice protests in response to the police killing of George Floyd.
In a now infamous inflammatory tweet, Mr Trump appeared to encourage people to shoot looters.
“When the looting begins, the shooting begins!” he tweeted.
Ms. Griffin told the Jan. 6 panel that everyone was “horrified” by her post and that even Fox News, a former ally of the former president, criticized her comments.
“I mean, I and every living breathing person was horrified by it,” he said.
“I walked into his office, and they were crushing us, you know, even Fox News said, ‘This is terrible.’ So I walked into the dining room and I said, ‘Sir…you’ve got to bring this back.’ .I said “even your friends will come after you”.
Despite repeated attempts by her inner circle to push back on the tweet, Ms Griffin said it took five hours to finally convince the former president to send a tweet that was “at least a little bit defamatory”.

Trump shares article prompting third-party bid if GOP rejects him in ’24
Former President Donald Trump has approvingly shared an article on his Truth Social account arguing that he should file a third-party bid for the presidency if Republicans do not award him the Republican nomination in the upcoming 2024 election.
On Wednesday, Mr. Trump, who last month declared himself a candidate in the 2024 Republican primary, shared an article in the right-wing magazine American Greatness on his Truth Social page. The article compares his theoretical third-party candidacy to the 1912 candidacy of Theodore Roosevelt, whose campaign on the “Bull Moose” or “Progressive” party line split the Republican vote and led to the defeat of William Howard Taft at the hands of Woodrow Wilson.
Editorial author Dan Glernter writes that the inevitable consequence of a third-party candidacy by Trump would be to hand the 2024 election to the Democratic nominee. Glernter suggests the outcome would be justifiable as punishment for the GOP’s rejection of Mr. Trump if he loses the party’s nomination to another candidate.

The House Ways and Means Committee voted to release the documents last week, with some redactions of sensitive information such as Social Security numbers and contact information.
The panel obtained six years of personal and business tax records from Mr. Trump from 2015 to 2020, while investigating a report that the Internal Revenue Service audited only Mr. Trump once during his four years in office, although annual audits were mandatory.
