Three dead, including one suspect, after stabbing a woman and two daughters in southern Ottawa

Three people have been killed, including the suspect, after a woman and her two daughters were stabbed south of the Ottawa town on Monday night.

Ottawa police said in a press release that they were called to a house on Anoka Street near Grasmere Crescent, south of Heron Road, around 10:30 p.m. .

Police had received a call to 911 from the scene reporting that three female victims had been stabbed by a suspicious man who had arrived at the house.

The house at 1273 Anoka Street is owned by a woman with two daughters, according to neighbors.

When police arrived, two of the three female victims were already without vital signs, according to emergency response sources.

Suspect shot dead by police

Police confronted the suspect, who, according to police sources, was still carrying a knife. Police then shot and killed the suspect, police sources said.

Neighbor Noella Buenti told CBC News she heard gunshots and saw the suspect’s body lying on the road. He said he also spoke to the boyfriend of one of the victims of the stabbing.

“He was very upset and didn’t talk. He just said there was someone with a knife. And the police asked him to drop the knife and he didn’t. And then they shot him,” Buenti said.

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate and is investigating.

The third stabbing victim remains in hospital with “multiple stab wounds,” police said. According to Ottawa paramedics, she was in serious condition with injuries deemed non-fatal when she was taken to hospital.

Police have not publicly identified the victims.

The SIU has not yet shared any details. The independent agency is investigating police-related deaths, as well as serious injuries, officers who shot someone with a gun and allegations of sexual assault.

Paramedic spokesman Marc-Antoine Deschamps called the scene “complex.”

The area is about six miles south of Parliament Hill.

“I never thought it would happen in this neighborhood, that’s all. Life has gone crazy,” Buenti said.

“It was amazing. I don’t know how many police cars there were here; there were over 10, 12 police cars; an ambulance, everything.”
