Welcome to our coverage of The Block auctions in 2022, there have been shocks and surprises as houses have gone under the hammer.
A block record has been set, but the auctions have also been bittersweet with two houses being passed up.
Read about all the action here.
The winners of Block 2022
Well, with the final auction done it means that Omar and Oz are the winners of season 18, but the look on their faces when they find out is everything – it’s a bittersweet victory.
They will share their $1,586,666.66 in profits plus $100,000 in prize money for winning the season, wiping out Jimmy and Tam’s record profit starting in 2020. That means they walk away with about $800,000 each.

Scott Cam wraps things up after bittersweet auction result for teams in 2022. (New)
“Well I’ve never seen that before and I’ve been doing this for a long time. We started off with a stunning result with the boys in House 5 and then a sudden heartbreak with Tom and Sarah-Jane,” says Scotty.
“If anyone can tell me what happened there I’d love to hear it. I’m delighted to have achieved a great result with Rachel and Ryan and I’m very sure of a great result for Ankur and Sharon and Dylan and Jenny.”
And with that we say goodnight, and see you in 2023 for another season of The Block.
We’ll keep you posted on any updates on the House 3 and 4 sales, so check back soon. For now, read below to see how all the auctions played out.
Auction 5: Dylan and Jenny
At this point we have a record profit, a shockingly low profit, a better profit and an unsold house at auction. So we’re all feeling for Dylan and Jenny as they head to Scotty’s cabin to find out his fate.
Auctioneer Damien Cooley kicks things off by asking for a “within reason” bid, but there is absolute silence.
Danny starts with an offer of $3,330,000.33, but Damien says the offer is not “respectable”.
Dylan and Jenny are nervous but hopeful. (new)
Damien bids over $4 million, but there is absolute silence, and after the comment about his bid, Danny literally turns his back on the auction.
Frank finally steps in with an offer of $3.9 million as Dylan and Jenny wonder where their registered buyers are.

With no further offers, Damien stops to chat with Dylan and Jenny and tells them they’re interested in passing it on.
Damien returns and suddenly the buyer’s attorney, Nicole Jacobs, walks in with an offer of $3.925 million.
Dylan and Jenny make frantic calls to their real estate agent. (new)
Frank offers $4 million, as Dylan and Jenny are yelling at Damien to “stop” and “pass it,” but Damien asks for more offers.
“Nooo…no, tell them to do it,” Jenny says making a call.
“Hey, can you throw him away? I don’t want him to get close,” Jenny says. “Hurry, hurry, hurry.”

Nicole offers $4.025 million before Frank offers $4.075, leaving everyone on the hook, fearing that Dylan and Jenny won’t make much money if the bids exceed the reserve.
Damien then calls for a break to chat with Dylan and Jenny again, but Scotty steps in and takes the call instead.
Dylan and Jenny react when their house doesn’t sell. (new)
“Don’t make another offer mate, the sellers want it done now. We don’t want $10,000 [over reserve], we don’t want one, two, three. First, second, third call, negative, get over it mate,” Scotty tells him.
“You see,” Damien says.
Back at house 4, Damien passes it on and the property is with Frank to negotiate.
Dylan and Jenny are shaking with relief that the house is in negotiations after the drama of trying to get it through.
Auction 4: Ankur and Sharon
Now it’s time for House 4 to go under the hammer and when they get to Scotty’s cabin he advises them to follow Rachel and Ryan’s strategy and pass it if the deals don’t go well.
Bidding starts at $3.5 million, then Frank offers $3.85 million before another bidder offers $3.9 million.
Soon it goes up to $3.95, then $4 million, and then Frank comes back with $4.25 million.
Ankur and Sharon are pensive as the auctions begin. (new)
Another buyer is offering $4.05 million, which means we’re getting close to reserve, but potentially not much more.
“This is dangerous territory,” Shelley says to the other teams watching.
The auctioneer starts calling it before a bid of $4.075 million is made.
At this point, Sharon gets on the phone to tell her real estate agent to pass it on.

“You have to convey it one hundred percent,” says Tom, speaking from experience.
With no more bids, the auctioneer takes a break to get advice from Ankur and Sharon.
The couple put their agent Paul on speakerphone and he says he’d “love to sell it under the hammer” but Scotty tells him they have to pass him up because they’re only going to make about $10,000 profit.
Sharon urges her auctioneer to sell the house. (new)
Back in House 3, the auctioneer goes through and gives the last bidder exclusive bargaining rights, and everyone everywhere breathes a huge sigh of relief that Ankur and Sharon have a chance to get a little extra. of benefits
“That was extremely stressful because it could have been so much worse,” admits Scotty.
Paul goes to the highest bidder, but refuses to budge on his bid of $4,075.
Ankur and Sharon’s house has not been sold.

Auction 3: Rachel and Ryan
The pair are sent off with best wishes and a reminder that “every auction is its own beast” as they head to Scotty’s cabin to watch his auction.
Rachel admits she is “devastated” after Tom and Sarah-Jane’s auction, but now it’s time for her house to go under the hammer.
Marty Fox is their real estate agent and auctioneer, and he obviously noticed how the last auction went.
Frank starts with an offer of $3.85 million, but Marty wants to see it at least in the range the house was listed for.
“My instructions are not to accept offers that low,” says Marty.
Scotty greets Rachel and Ryan before his auction begins. (new)
Danny teases that Marty might be the first person to not get an offer, but Marty’s fine with that “because we’re going to sell it anyway.”
Frank ups his last offer to $3.95 million and then Marty asks Danny if he will make an offer.
But Danny wants to know if his offer will be accepted, leaving Rachel on the edge of her seat fearing the worst.
Despite this, Danny is ready to step up and is offering just 99 cents more.
Frank rounds the number up to $4 million, which prompts Danny to offer just 50 cents more.
Rachel and Ryan are shocked by the low bids. (new)
Marty asks Frank to round things out with his next offer and he does so at $4.05 million before Danny offers just 50 cents more.
The house isn’t on the market at that figure yet, so Rachel and Ryan want the house conveyed to give them a chance to make more money later.
After Tom and Sarah-Jane’s auction, they know that if the house goes over reserve, their chances of getting a better deal are gone.

Rachel decides to call Marty.
“Unless we get a flat offer of $4.2 or higher, we just pass it. We don’t let it continue to think it’s going to go to $4.1 and go higher,” Ryan says.
“So you pass it on to Danny to negotiate?” Rachel asks Marty.
“Right,” he replies.
Rachel and Ryan make an important phone call. (new)
Back with the bidders, Marty informs them that he won’t accept anything less than $2.2 million, but there are no more bids.
Rachel and Ryan’s house goes up for sale.
“I think the smartest thing and the best thing you did was pass it,” Scotty says as we see Marty take Danny aside for the negotiation.
Marty soon calls Rachel with an update that Danny has offered him $4,249,000.85, giving Ryan and Rachel a profit of $169,000.85.
“Done,” Rachel says disappointedly.
“It’s not the bottom line, it’s a result,” Scotty tells Rachel and Ryan.
Auction 2: Tom and Sarah-Jane
The pair are in shock when they arrive at Scotty’s cabin, and Scotty’s dog Frankie is also in disbelief, lying on the floor after the roller coaster that was Omar and Oz’s auction.
But now it’s House 1’s turn, and Sarah-Jane is so nervous she’s struggling to speak, and given how much SJ loves a chat, we know she’s really feeling the pressure now.
Veteran Block auctioneer and real estate agent David Wood starts the auction and the bids come in, but they are far below what anyone expected.
Frank starts with $3.8 million and Nicole raises it to $4 million.
Back to Frank, who bids $4.05, and then Nicole bids $4.075, and it’s a very slow start after the quick bidding war we just saw for House 5.
Tom and Sarah-Jane are concerned to see how the bids are going. (new)
Now David is calling the auction for just $4,075, which is $5,000 under reserve, even though it’s not on the market yet.
And then Danny enters the bidding with $4,100,000.99, which means that at this stage Tom and Sarah-Jane have made $20,000.99 in profit.
“It’s a start,” Tom says hopefully as Sarah-Jane rubs her head anxiously.
It’s on the market and David starts to say it. The other contestants are speechless at Scotty’s house watching.
The teams watch as Tom and Sarah-Jane’s house goes under the hammer. (new)
David is still reluctant to call him because he thinks he’s worth so much more, so he orders everyone to take a break.
As Frank calls a customer, Scotty tries to keep Tom and Sarah-Jane’s hopes up by saying he’s “seen this before, slow down and then jump.”
Sarah-Jane is crying wondering if three months of hard work will really come down to this.
Scotty says what we’re all thinking. “How can we have that previous auction and then have this one?” he asks
