No. 16 UCLA made big plays on both sides of the ball as it jumped out to a 14-0 lead over No. 7 USC after the first quarter of a critical Pac-12 rivalry matchup. The Bruins came in as slight underdogs, but frustrated the Trojans in the first frame with a big stop on fourth down and an interception by quarterback Caleb Williams.
Williams’ winning Medrano interception set up a 30-yard touchdown pass from UCLA’s Dorian Thompson-Robinson to Michael Ezeike on the next play to make it 14-0, less than a minute after the Bruins ended a 14-play touchdown run with a Thompson-Robinson scoring streak.
The stakes are always high when UCLA and USC meet for their late-season crosstown rivalry, if for no other reason than bragging rights. But the magnitude of that matchup is especially important this time around as the Trojans and Bruins remain in the Pac-12 title hunt. If USC wins, it will lock up a spot in the Pac-12 championship game and keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive. If UCLA wins, it could find its way to the league title game with a win at California to close out the regular season next Friday.
