Samsung Display demonstrated an OLED panel for smartphones that achieved a peak brightness of more than 2,000 nits at CES 2023. The UDR (Ultra Dynamic Range) luminance mark of 2,000 was certified by UL Solutions and represents the pinnacle of Samsung’s mobile display technology. The maximum brightness value also matches the recently announced S95C and S90C quantum dot OLED TVs.
Samsung Display also secured a UDR luminance rating of 1,500 nits on its new panel. Samsung claims the new UDR panel displays more realistic and rich colors that will be especially noticeable outdoors.
It remains to be seen which Samsung phone will debut the new UDR smartphone display, though there’s a good chance it could be the upcoming Galaxy S23 series. Samsung Display already supplies OLED panels to Apple, whose iPhone 14 Pro series boasts a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits for HDR content.
