Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked is less than three weeks away, and an official trailer for the event has already excited fans. In the 45-second video, we see several images of what appear to be two new phones, possibly the rumored Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Although the Galaxy Z Flip and Fold 4 are both foldable phones, they differ in many ways. The most notable difference is that the Z Fold folds like a book, while the Z Flip folds vertically. Last year’s Z Flip 3 was dubbed the “most ordinary foldable available” by CNET’s Patrick Holland, and the upcoming Z Flip 4 will likely bring some welcome upgrades and improvements.
We’re collecting all the rumors about the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s release date, price, new features, and specs, and will update this story as new information becomes available. Here’s what we’ve heard so far. Just note that since these are rumours, Samsung hasn’t confirmed any of the specs.

Release date: Will we see the Galaxy Z Flip 4 on August 10?
Following rumors of an August Unpacked from tipster Evan Blass, Samsung has confirmed that it will hold an event on August 10, 2022. It’s still unclear what exactly will be announced at the company’s upcoming event, but Samsung’s invitation and the latest trailer shows what it looks like. be a new version of the Galaxy Z Flip clamshell.
Given the history of the foldable phone (and that of its Galaxy Z Fold sibling), we can roughly deduce when to expect the new device.
The Galaxy Z Flip releases don’t seem to follow a specific pattern, as the original was announced in February 2020 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 launched in August 2021. However, it seems that Samsung combined the device with the Galaxy Z Fold. that’s why the Z Flip jumped from version 1 to version 3, to match the naming convention of the Z Fold.
The Galaxy Fold 2019 and Z Fold 2 2020 launched in September, while the Z Fold 3 debuted in August 2021. If Samsung plans to launch the phones as a pair, we’re likely to expect the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in August or September alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which aligns with the date of the upcoming event.
Price: The Galaxy Z Flip 4 could be less expensive
We haven’t heard much about the possible price of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 yet. But, we can look at the Galaxy Z Fold 4 rumors for clues.
A Korean leaker who goes by the handle yeux1122 suggests that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 will cost less than the Z Fold 3. (Leaker yeux1122 doesn’t have much history compared to others. MacRumors reported in February that they correctly guessed the period of release time of the iPad Mini 6, but were incorrect about the tablet’s screen size.) While the tipster didn’t provide further details, this speculation lines up with the phone’s pricing history. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 ($1,800) dropped in price compared to the Fold 2 ($2,000). The price of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 was also dropped last year to $1,000 from $1,380 for the original Z Flip.
With that in mind, it’s possible that Samsung will reduce the cost of the Z Flip 4. But like any other rumor, we won’t know for sure until the company announces the device.

Design: Larger cover screen and a new hinge
Rumors about the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 4 display suggest that Samsung is making some small tweaks rather than major upgrades. According to Korean news site The Elec, the Z Flip 4 will retain the Z Flip 3’s 6.7-inch internal foldable display, but the outer cover display will increase slightly from 1.83 to 1.9 inches. Ross Young, co-founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, however, believes that the deck display could increase even further to 2 inches.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3’s cover display, the display on the outside when the phone is closed, is four times larger than the original Z Flip, and Holland praised the move as a “step in the right direction.” A slightly larger cover screen could make reading notifications and swiping widgets a little easier.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 may also have a redesigned hinge. That is, according to the Ice Universe leaker. The new hinge, which is also shown in the leaked images of the flip phone posted by Blass, would be thinner than the ones on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and may give the phone a slimmer overall design.

However, according to a Samsung patent filed with the World Intellectual Property Office, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 may get more than just a new display cover and hinge. The patent, as reported by Dutch blog LetsGoDigital in March, shows a Galaxy Z Flip that has a foldable and extendable display that can be pulled out to create a display that’s twice as large.

Cameras: rotating lenses?
Samsung didn’t update the camera hardware for the Galaxy Z Flip 3, but the upcoming Z Flip 4 may offer some improvements. If the rumors are to be believed, the new foldable will offer a rotating camera and a better camera under the display.
Samsung filed another patent application with the World Intellectual Property Office for a clamshell phone with a rotating camera, as LetsGoDigital reported in 2021. The camera, which lives on the hinge of the foldable , has two lenses and can be rotated for use when the phone is closed. , open or with different angles in between. This means the camera could take selfies and fulfill other photography needs.

While a one-size-fits-all camera sounds perfect, it can also make the folding hinge significantly larger, making the phone larger and bulkier.
Additional rumors from Korean leaker yeux1122 suggest that Samsung has tested versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 with an improved display camera that can also be used on the cover display. However, the company is also rumored to have tested versions of the phone with a punch-hole and cutout display.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 may have a larger battery capacity than its predecessor. According to leaker Ice Universe, Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone could have a 3,700mAh battery. That’s 400mAh more than last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 3.
Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip
Ice Universe rumors also suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 may be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip. The new chip would give the foldables a performance boost over the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold 3 powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888.
Color options
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is rumored to come in four colors, including blue, black, cream, and a lavender option said to be called Bora Purple, according to alleged renders published by MySmartPrice.
