17 min: Abada crosses from the right. Kyogo chests Hatate, who fires a first-time shot over the bar from the edge of the box. Celtic are creating a lot of chances here.
15 min: Taylor sends possession carelessly, gifting the ball to Asensio on the right. Asensio fires a pass into the face of the Celtic sky for Valverde, who takes a poor touch before cutting a woeful effort miles to the left.
14 min: A little space for Hatate on the left. It has Maeda and Abada in the middle. Maeda meets Hatate’s low cross with a telescopic leg but can only deflect the ball harmlessly to the right. Had he left that for his teammate, Abada was surely scoring the equaliser. Celtic look very animated in attack.
12 min: Christopher Nkunku has given Leipzig the lead against Shakhtar in Warsaw. As things stand, the Germans have consolidated second position in Group F.
10 min: Now it’s O’Riley’s turn to look for Kyogo, this time down the inside left channel. Again, the touch is not perfect and the ball goes to Courtois. Celtic look capable of creating some chances here.
9 min: Mooy crosses the field from the right for Kyogo, who has a chance to break into the Real area down the channel, but takes a hard touch and sends the ball wide for a goal kick.
7 min: Suddenly Celtic are all over the show and Vinicius breaks away down the left before drifting into the box. His shot is blocked by Starfelt and Celtic clear their lines.

Penalty for Real Madrid
5 min: … but all that good work comes undone with a wave of Jenz’s arm. Vinícius shoots from a tight angle on the right. The ball breaks again to Valverde, who doesn’t connect well with his shot…but it doesn’t matter, because the ball bounces back to Jenz’s waving arm. oh dear
4 min: Abada is in some space on the right, but his strong touch stops Celtic’s gallop. It’s a good start from the visitors, who have come out of the traps on the front foot.
2 min: Maeda closes down Courtois, whose charge goes out again for a shot on goal. Celtic have clearly decided that, given they don’t play there too often, they won’t die wondering.
1 min: A bright start from Celtic as Mooy gets forward, then feeds Juranović down the right. Juranović drives his cross deep into the back row.
Real gets the ball rolling. A rare old atmosphere at the Bernabéu, despite all the reconstruction.
The teams are out! Real Madrid wears their white meringue, while Celtic go with the second-choice green and black. We’ll be leaving in a couple of minutes with Zadok’s soundtrack.
Ange Postecoglu, speaking on BT Sport, laments the loss to injury of Cameron Carter-Vickers. “We’ve had a few of those knocks during this campaign, and it’s disappointing for him more than anything else. Tonight is not about one player making the difference, it will take a massive collective effort from everyone to make an impact against a fantastic football team. There is meaning in everything we do, especially at this level. We have fantastic support again tonight and a chance to send them home happy. More importantly, we can give them some hope for the future. To do that we have to act very well.”
There is still a lot to decide in Group F. Real will seal top spot with a win this evening. Leipzig need just a point against Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw to qualify for the last 16, but if the Ukrainians win, they will do so. Leipzig can only win the group if they beat Shakhtar and Celtic get something in Madrid. Celtic will finish bottom no matter what.
Here’s a reminder of what happened at Parkhead a couple of months ago…
… and when the teams drew in the 1979-80 European Cup.
Celtic make four changes to the starting XI named for the 3-0 win at Livingston on Sunday. There are Carl Starfelt, Liel Abada, Daizen Maeda and Josip Juranović; Sead Hakšabanović, James Forrest and Anthony Ralston drop to the bench, while Cameron Carter-Vickers misses out through injury.
Real Madrid make two changes to the XI that started the 1-1 draw at home with Girona. Éder Militão and Marco Asensio replace Eduardo Camavinga and Antonio Rüdiger, who drop to the bench. Karim Benzema, who has missed Real’s last seven games with a muscle injury, is named as a substitute.

preamble
Nothing about it for Celtic. Whatever happens at the Bernabéu tonight, Ange Postecoglu’s men will finish bottom of Group F. There will be a few pounds if they win, but let’s not reduce it to that. Real, however, need a win to be sure of first place. If they fail to win, and Leipzig beat Shakhtar Donetsk, the Germans will overtake them in first place. So there’s that. Kick-off is at 17:45 GMT. It’s on!
