A rock legend has opened up about his secret battle with cancer, making the heartbreaking revelation that he has “never felt pain like this”.
Rage Against The Machine bassist Tim Commerford said he had been on a “brutal” journey after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, The Sun reported.
Tim, 54, opened up about having to undergo horror surgery just months after the band hit the road on their comeback tour.
Rage Against The Machine toured America as part of the concert series, two months after Tim had his prostate removed.
The band member admitted he had “never felt pain” like recovering from surgery as he kept his diagnosis a secret.
Tim said only his family and fellow band members knew about the cancer, as he struggled to open up about his diagnosis.
She told news website SPIN: “I’ve been struggling and it’s hard. It might not seem like much, but to have a conversation and not choke up and get emotional is a victory for me.
“The physical suffering after the surgery, I have never felt such pain. I’ve always felt that I had a very high pain tolerance, but this didn’t bring me to my knees.
“After the pain went away, I still haven’t been able to get up, even though I’m exercising and I’m doing shit, but psychologically, the damage is severe.
“It’s really hard for me not to break down and get emotional.”
Tim revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer after a series of check-ups for a life insurance policy, and required his PSA numbers to be recorded.
As the numbers, which detect prostate cancer in men, continued to rise, he was sent for a biopsy and diagnosed with cancer.
The star said she regretted not watching it sooner, as her father died of cancer in her 70s and her mother died of the disease in her 40s.
Tim said he wanted to make it to 65 as he is ready for the “long journey” to recovery from the disease.
