Some mourners are joining the queue at Southwark Park, but official advice is that entry to the queue is at a standstill with the current waiting time estimated at 14 hours.

Among thousands of members of the public who have already queued to see the Queen lie in state was David Beckham, who said he waited more than 12 hours.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and British MPs were among the leaders who also paid their respects to the Queen at Westminster Hall on Friday.

Two mourners queuing on Wednesday were allegedly sexually assaulted by a man, a court has heard.

Meanwhile, the king has returned to London from Wales ahead of a 15-minute vigil to be held around his mother’s coffin at around 7.30pm. She will be alongside her siblings, the Princess Royal, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex, as they did in Edinburgh.

Deputies criticized for skipping the queue

As members of the public queue for hours to see the Queen lie in state, a rule allowing MPs and peers to skip the queue along with up to four guests has drawn criticism.

David Beckham has been praised after it emerged he waited 13 hours, along with members of the public, to visit Westminster Hall. Holly Willoughby and Philip Scofield “skipped” each other’s tails.

Most parliamentary staff can also skip the queue and bring a guest.

But people who work directly for MPs and peers, such as parliamentary researchers, cannot.
