Queen Elizabeth’s funeral: date, time, location and final resting place of our monarch

Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral will take place at 11am on Monday, September 19, following her death at Balmoral on Thursday.

The late Queen’s son and heir, Charles, is now the King.

Details of his final journey from Balmoral to Windsor, and when members of the public can pay their respects, were released by the Earl Marshal, Duke of Norfolk, who is coordinating the funeral arrangements.

When is the late queen’s funeral?

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the date of the state funeral will be Monday 19 September. It should start at 11:00 BST.

Will there be a public holiday for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral?

On September 10, the king passed an order that the day of the late queen’s funeral be a public holiday, with schools to be closed on the same day.

“Two: to name the day of Her Majesty’s state funeral as a public holiday in Scotland.

“And of two orders in council, ordering the Lord Chancellor to affix the great seal to the proclamations.”

When does the coffin procession start?

The procession has begun to take His Majesty’s coffin to its final resting place.

On Sunday, Queen Elizabeth’s coffin was carried to a waiting hearse by six keepers from the Balmoral Estate which made the slow six-hour journey to Edinburgh, where it was taken to the Palace’s throne room of Holyroodhouse, the official royal residence of Scotland.

Staff there were able to pay their respects before the King and Queen Consort traveled behind the coffin on its way from Holyroodhouse to St Giles’ Cathedral, where the Crown of Scotland was placed on the coffin

There, the king and his brothers held a silent vigil as they stood by the late queen’s coffin.

The late Queen will lie in state in the cathedral until Tuesday 13 September to allow the people of Scotland to pay their respects.

When will the coffin be moved to Buckingham Palace?

On Tuesday 13 September at 5pm, the coffin will be carried on the 45-minute journey from St Giles’ Cathedral to Edinburgh Airport, where the Princess Royal will join her late mother on the flight to RAF Northolt in London, where it will land at 18.55. .

From Northolt, the coffin will be taken in a state hearse to Buckingham Palace, where it will lie in the Bow Room overnight.
