No. 4 Clemson has struggled offensively once again as the Tigers fell behind 14-0 on the road to Notre Dame without being able to move the ball effectively. Points and yards were hard to come by for both teams, but the Fighting Irish took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a special teams play.
Jordan Botelho blocked a Clemson punt that Prince Kollie took and returned 19 yards for a touchdown to give the Fighting Irish an early lead. From there, both teams battled through a series of drives before Notre Dame QB Drew Pyne capped a 78-yard touchdown drive with a 5-yard run with 38 seconds left in the half for the Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame is 5-3 after suffering a pair of impressive losses to Marshall and Stanford earlier this season under first-year coach Marcus Freeman, but this could be a season-defining win if the Fighting Irish can pull – it Clemson is fighting for a position in the College Football Playoff and cannot afford a loss to an unranked foe.
