A murder investigation has been launched after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a ‘targeted attack’ in Cambridge.
Officers are searching for the attacker who struck in mid-afternoon at Logan’s Meadow, a small nature reserve by the River Cam.
The Mossos d’Esquadra went to the scene for the ambulance service shortly before 3:00 p.m.
Despite the efforts of emergency workers, the teenager was pronounced dead, Cambridgeshire Police said.
Detective Superintendent Carl Foster, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said police are following a number of leads but believe the attack was “targeted”.
Appeal to the public
He said: “While we cannot confirm the cause of death until a post-mortem examination has been carried out, we believe the boy was stabbed in a targeted attack.
“We are following several leads and conducting investigations to find those responsible, but no arrests have been made yet.”
Several members of the public are believed to have been at the scene and spoke to paramedics but left before officers arrived. Police are appealing for people to get in touch by calling 101.
