LIVE updates from AFL 2022 grand final: O’Connor replaces unfortunate Holmes, Parfitt and Campbell, substitutes

What a game it promises to be. In one corner, we have Geelong, on a 15-game winning streak, and in the other corner, we have the Swans, who have won their last nine games.

If the Cats are successful, they will become the first team since Brisbane in 2001 to win the last 16 games of a season.

And if the Swans lift the cup, it would be their third in 18 years, completing the most successful period in their history.

Geelong, of course, is going for its first flag since 2011, while the Swans are gunning for their first since 2012. All told, the Cats have nine VFL/AFL premierships and the Swans have five.

The Swans have recent history on their side, winning their last two games against the Cats, including that famous March night at the SCG when Lance Franklin kicked his 1000th career goal. They also enjoy an all-time record of 4-1 against the Cats in the finals.

But the Cats have emphatically disproved the theory that they only play well at Kardinia Park, having won 10 of their last 11 games at the MCG. However, the Swans aren’t too shabby on this ground, with seven wins from their last 10.
