LAST TRADING DAY PODCAST: 48 hours to go as JHF, Jackson and Rankine move

GWS interested in Hawk O’Meara | 02:43

10:45 AM — BEGINNING OF THE LOBB TALK

Fremantle and the Western Bulldogs have reportedly engaged in their first meaningful talks for Rory Lobb.

While no such deal is in place, it’s a promising step given the Dockers initially said they had no plans to trade the contracted big man.

Multiple reports indicate the Dockers are targeting the Dogs’ Pick 11, but the Dogs have only offered Pick 30 so far.

So a deal could hinge on a Josh Dunkley trade, which could see the Dogs end up with Pick 21 to potentially deal Lobb.

10:30 AM — GUNSTON MOVES TO LIONS

Brisbane have officially landed Jack Gunston from Hawthorn in exchange for Pick 48 and a future fourth-round pick.

The Lions traded for Gunston instead of signing him as a free agent, as it would have diluted their compensation for Dan McStay.

AFL media reports Brisbane and Hawthorn were close to a deal on Friday before meeting again this week to hammer it out.

Gunston, 30, leaves Hawthorn after 225 games, including winning three premierships.

Brisbane now has picks 21, 34, 35, 36 and 38 and four subsequent selections as it looks to negotiate a deal with the Western Bulldogs for Josh Dunkley.

09:00 — PORT OFFER FOR RATUGOLEA

Port Adelaide has reportedly offered Pick 33 for Geelong big man Esava Ratugolea Peter Ryan of The Age.

The Power took Pick 33 as part of Monday’s historic mega-graduation as they now turn their attention to landing Ratugolea, who is contracted for next season but is looking for more senior opportunities.

Although Geelong has said it is keen to retain Ratugolea, the Cats could use Pick 33 as valuable currency to secure a deal with Collingwood for Ollie Henry amid a stalemate between the clubs.

Speaking AFL Commercial Radio, Power Footy boss Chris Davies admitted talks with Geelong for Ratugolea have so far been “pretty slow to be honest”.

“We now have pick 33, and that’s the pick we’ve earmarked for Esava if that’s what Geelong are willing to take for him,” he said.

“The challenge here is whether Geelong want to trade a contracted player.”

8:45 AM – BOMBERS EXPECTING TO MAKE WEIDEMAN IN ‘ROUNDABOUT’ THREE-TEAM DEAL

Essendon are looking to effectively trade Aaron Francis for Sam Weideman in a three-team deal involving Sydney and Melbourne, it is reported. AFL media.

Francis and Weideman, who were taken in the first 10 picks of the 2015 draft, have been linked with the Swans and Bombers respectively for third-round picks as they look for bigger opportunities.

AFL Meda reports that Melbourne would prefer round three to come from Essendon, while Sydney’s pick is more likely to be in this year’s draft, meaning there is also a pick swap.

6:00 AM – GRUNDY LIABILITY AS THE PILLS THREATEN TO HOLD HIM

It’s safe to say the deal for Brodie Grundy won’t be the first Tuesday.

According to The Age, Melbourne have rejected a push by Collingwood to trade first-round picks as part of the deal.

The Demons have already put selection 27 on the table for the All Australian double, as well as taking on a significant part of Grundy’s big financial deal.

But the Magpies were looking to get pick 13 Melbourne got for Luke Jackson, along with pick 27, sending Grundy and pick 16 back. But the Devils were not interested in allowing the Pies to upgrade their selection.

Collingwood are reportedly willing to forego the trade altogether and keep Grundy, which would likely mean Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell and Gold Coast’s Brayden Fiorini are out.

Alternatively, they could accept pick 27 if they don’t have to pay as much of Grundy’s contract to Melbourne.

Meanwhile, Jon Ralph of the Herald Sun reports that Ivan Soldo is set to arrive at GWS from Richmond as one of the first offers on Tuesday.

But deals for Ollie Henry, Esava Ratugolea and Jacob Hopper are still to be resolved. Port Adelaide is still holding firm on its pick 33 bid for the big cat.

Seven’s Tom Browne remains optimistic a deal can be reached with Bulldog Josh Dunkey.

The Dunkley deal has been at a standstill for a few days now as the Dogs are investigating what is a fair price.

After GWS received picks 12 and 19 for Tim Taranto to start the trade period, the Bulldogs are reported to have demanded a similar deal.

“It’s tough for the Dogs, they turned down possibly a better deal from Essendon for Dunkley a couple of years ago,” Browne said.

Lloyd Meek is expected to land at Hawthorn if the clubs agree on whether he is worth a second round or a future third.
