“Thank you Brittany for never giving up”: Lisa Wilkinson wins top news coverage or public affairs report
Sarah Abo and David Speers present this award.
Lisa Wilkinson’s interview with Brittany Higgins has won this Lodge.
Ms Wilkinson said that after 40 years of journalism, it was “by far” the most important job she had ever done.
“I found out from the first phone call I had early last year with a young woman who told me her name was Brittany Higgins,” he said.
“Four incredibly intense sleepless weeks later, when our story aired, the whole country knew the name of Brittany Higgins.”
“As Brittany warned me before she went on the air, her story would be seen by many of the most powerful people in this country, not as a human problem, but as a political problem.”
“Brittany Higgins was a political problem. And governments like political problems to go away. But Brittany never did. And the truth is, that honor belongs to Brittany.”

Key event
Bruce McAvaney has been inducted into the Lodge Hall of Fame
Leigh Matthews has announced the award, this is what he said:
“It is a great pleasure because Macca has been a much admired friend, confidant and colleague on Seven’s AFL coverage for many years.
A lot of people are intrigued by his unique personality on the air and I am often asked what Bruce really is like and my answer is always the same. What you see is what you get.
While his preparation is meticulous and his recollection of the information is astonishing, it is his passionate enthusiasm that shines in his commentary papers that personifies the true Macca.
His love of sports is not just a manufacture in the air. We often traveled together to the MCG for big Friday night games and Macca was always so excited that I thought I was about to play and would always have a statistic to bounce me off as we all know Bruce loves your stats.
Sharing the gearbox of many football games, he felt much more luxurious when Bruce led the team.
He always had status and class on any show. It is undeniable that many of Australia’s most iconic sporting moments have been much, much more memorable made by the words of Bruce McAvaney.
He was also looking for the perfect call, well tonight Bruce, that honor is the perfect call. “
