A new government energy bill relief plan will act as the equivalent of the price freeze in place for households, Jacob Rees-Mogg announced in the final moments.
Support in the form of a discount will be automatically applied to gas and electricity bills between 1 October and 31 March. Allowed wholesale prices are expected to be £211 per MWh for electricity and £75 per MWh for gas.
Liz Truss, the First Minister, said: “As we are doing for consumers, our new scheme will keep their energy bills low from October, providing security and peace of mind.”
Rees-Mogg added: “The help we are already putting in place will save families money on their bills, and the Government’s plans for businesses, charities and public sector organizations will give them the equivalent level of support .
“This, together with the steps we are taking to increase the amount of domestic energy we produce to improve both security and energy supply, will boost growth, protect jobs and support families with their cost of life this winter.”
