Last live Conservative leadership: Labor will file a motion of censure on the government

Lord Hague, the former Conservative leader, has said he supports Rishi Sunak to replace Boris Johnson at number 10.

The former cabinet minister said he believes Sunak has the right combination of experience, financial discipline and ability to generate excitement.

When asked during an interview on Times Radio if Mr. Sunak is his choice, he said, “Yes, basically, yes it is. I think what is needed in this job is an incredibly difficult job to be the next prime minister of the United Kingdom, but he needs a combination of experience at the highest level of government, real discipline on the economic side … and the ability to generate some excitement for the future and I think he is. ” In a way, I’m partial, it happened to me in my Richmond Yorkshire constituency, so I know him very, very well for the last seven years and I admire him.

“But that combination of factors means yes, he would be my husband. I am no longer a deputy, of course, but if I were, I would nominate him today.”
