The Los Angeles-based dog rescue organization from which Olivia Wilde adopted her Golden Retriever, Gordon, wants to “set the record straight” on what really happened to him.
Amid explosive claims from the actress’ former nanny, Maeday Rescue took to Instagram on Friday to explain the “Don’t Worry Darling” director’s decision to “bring Gordy home.”
They called Wilde, 38, a “tremendous animal rescue advocate” and “responsible pet owner” who acted “out of compassion and love for him.”
According to Maeday, the organization “rescued” Gordon — “along with his 4 littermates” — from an unnamed “shelter” in 2018.
The rescue’s founder, Natalie, then “fostered and bottle-fed them” until the organization was able to find them “their perfect forever homes.”
Wilde “adopted” one of the four dogs “at two months old” and gave it “lots of love”, “training” and “travel adventures”.
However, according to the rescue center, the actress “realized that Gordy didn’t like the traveling life and wasn’t happy around small children.”
Wilde and her ex-fiancé, Jason Sudeikis, share two children together: son Otis, 8, and daughter Daisy, 6.
Maeday claims that Gordon “had formed a very strong bond with his dog walker,” who lived in Brooklyn.
“Olivia called Maeday to discuss” the situation and “after much thought and consideration,” all parties involved felt that giving the dog to the New York dog walker would be “in Gordy’s best interest.”
“Occasionally, the animal is happier in a different environment and that’s okay,” the rescue center wrote, insisting they “take pride” in “finding the perfect forever home” for their animals.
Maeday also noted that Gordy’s Instagram page is filled with evidence that he’s “living his best life!”
“We felt we had to share this because we hate that the media is painting a Maeday adopter in a bad light,” the organization explained without elaborating.
Last week, Wilde and Sudeikis’ former nanny made a series of shocking allegations about the exes, including that the director carelessly dumped Gordon so he could travel more with her then-new boyfriend Harry Styles.
“After [Wilde] left handed [at the start of November 2020]came to visit and said, ‘We need to find Gordon a new home,’ nonchalantly,” the ex-employee alleged to the Daily Mail.
“Jason doesn’t care about animals and I wanted him out of the house as soon as possible.”
According to the nanny, who chose to remain anonymous, Sudeikis, 47, once told her that Wilde only had the pet for “appearances anyway” and that she “rarely cared” for him.
“I told Jason that I knew someone who loved Gordon and was willing to take him in,” the woman claimed. “So Jason said, ‘Let’s get him out of here right away.’
In a joint statement to Page Six, Wilde and Sudeikis issued a blanket denial of their former employee’s claims.
“As parents, it is incredibly distressing to learn that a former nanny for our two young children would choose to make such false and outrageous allegations about us publicly,” they told us through their rep last week.
“His 18-month campaign of harassment of us, as well as loved ones, close friends and colleagues, has reached its unfortunate apex. We will continue to focus on raising and protecting our children with the sincere hope that now choose to leave our family alone.”
