Johnny Depp follows Amber Heard in filing an appeal against the defamation trial

Johnny Depp has filed a notice of appeal a day after his former partner Amber Heard filed her own against the outcome of a multi-million dollar defamation case.

Documents filed Friday in Fairfax County, Virginia, state: “Plaintiff and counter-defendant John C Depp II, by counsel, appeal to the Court of Appeals lations of Virginia from all adverse decisions and from the order of final judgment. of this circuit court entered on June 24, 2022.”

On Thursday, Heard’s legal team filed a notice claiming errors made during the trial had prevented a “fair and just verdict” from being returned.

Heard’s submissions came shortly after Judge Penney Azcarate, who oversaw the six-week trial in Fairfax County District Court, dismissed her legal team’s claims of improper jury service.

“We believe the court made errors that prevented a fair and just verdict consistent with the First Amendment,” a spokesman for Heard said after the filing.

“Therefore, we are appealing the ruling. While we realize today’s filing will light the Twitter fires, there are steps we must take to ensure both fairness and justice.”

Depp sued his former partner over a 2018 article he wrote for the Washington Post about his experiences as a survivor of domestic abuse, which his lawyers said falsely accused him of being an abuser.
