Italy’s most wanted mob boss Matteo Messina Denaro caught after 30 years on the run

Italy’s most wanted mafia boss, Matteo Messina Denaro, has been arrested in Sicily after 30 years on the run.

Denaro, who was captured in Palermo, is allegedly the head of the Sicilian Cosa Nostra mafia.

He was jailed for life in absentia for the murders of prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, who were killed in 1992.

The 60-year-old was also jailed for life for the attacks in Rome, Florence and Milan that left 10 dead.

“I filled a graveyard, all by myself,” he once infamously said.

Pasquale Angelosanto, the general of the Carabinieri National Police, said: “Today, January 16, the Carabinieri… arrested the fugitive Matteo Messina Denaro inside a health facility in Palermo, where he had gone for therapeutic treatment “.

More to come.
