Ikea’s Swedish House Mafia record player goes on sale next month

Ikea’s record player made in collaboration with musical supergroup Swedish House Mafia will go on sale on October 1. The all-black device has a surprisingly minimalist look, and will set you back $159.99 once it hits Ikea’s maze-like stores.

The record player is part of Ikea’s Omarkedad (the Swedish word for “unlimited”) collection, which includes an armchair, a desk, an LED work lamp, a record holder, a laptop stand and shelves, among other items. Ikea first announced the record player in June, marking the furniture maker’s second attempt at creating and selling a record player. The turntable I was working on in 2018 never went on sale, but it looks like we have a much better chance of getting our hands on the device this time around.

The turntable doesn’t come with built-in speakers, which means you’ll need to connect it to one via the included RCA cable. It does come with a built-in preamp though, so at least you won’t have to buy it separately. Ikea notes that the turntable is compatible with the Eneby Bluetooth speaker (albeit via a wired connection) and is powered by USB-C, although you’ll need to supply your own charging brick. Some other things to note are that the turntable is belt driven, has a replaceable AT3600L cartridge with a tapered diamond tip, and supports two speeds of 33 and 45 RPM.
