Golden State Warriors win NBA championship with sixth game win over Boston Celtics

The victory gives the Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green trio their fourth title together, all under head coach Steve Kerr, joining their 2015, 2017 and 2018 championships. They have won 21 finals matches. ‘NBA together, having recently won. surpassed Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili (19) with the most NBA Finals wins by a trio in the last 30 years.

Curry, who was crying on the court after the final whistle, won the NBA Finals MVP honors for the first time in his career.

“It’s about playing a championship and what we’ve been through for the last three years,” he said. “At the start of the season, no one thought we would be here except everyone on this track right now, and it’s amazing. Very surreal, though.

“You never take it for granted because you never know when you’ll be back here. And coming back here and doing it means the world,” he said.

Kerr said Curry reminded him of Duncan, the center of the Hall of Fame who played his entire career at the San Antonio Spurs. “Totally different players. But from the point of view of humanity, the point of view of talent, humility, confidence, this wonderful combination that just makes everyone want to win for him,” he said.

This title ends with a mistake for the Warriors, as they were affected by injuries for a couple of years and returned to the postseason for the first time since 2019.

The way Game 6 unfolded at Boston’s TD Garden initially didn’t seem like a sure win for Golden State. Boston started off with a 14-2 lead. But the Warriors not only recovered, they hit the accelerator pedal.

Golden State made a 52-25 run to end the first half. That included a 21-0 streak, the longest streak in an NBA Finals game in 50 years.

The Celtics cut the Warriors’ lead to a single digit at the end of the third quarter and again in the fourth, but were unable to come close.

Boston, who reached the Finals for the first time since the 2009-10 season, had previously excelled in the do-or-die games in this year’s playoff race.

Until the defeat of the fifth game in these finals, they were undefeated in the postseason games after a defeat. They have been victorious in two home games against the Milwaukee Bucks and 7 games against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.

However, the Celtics won 2-1 in the series before losing three in a row to Golden State, including Games 4 and 6 in Boston.

“There are a lot of guys in there, very emotional right now,” Celtics head coach Ime Udoka said after the game.

“The message was that we thanked them for the effort and the growth and everything they allowed us to do in training this year. The biggest message was, ‘Learn from this, grow from this, take this experience and sees that there is another level to achieve, “said Udoka. “A team like Golden State that has been there, it has, it has been evident in many ways.”

This is the seventh Warriors league title in franchise history, two of which were won as Philadelphia Warriors in 1947 and 1956.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who normally presents the Larry O’Brien Trophy to the NBA champion, did not attend Games 5 or 6 due to NBA safety and health protocols.
