The 2014 Yakuza spin-off game Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin is getting its first full remake outside of Japan in Like a Dragon: Ishin, Sony revealed at the September 13 State of Play. This remake will be RGG Studio’s first game to be built with Unreal Engine 4.
Ishin brings new and familiar characters to 1860s Kyo, a fictionalized version of Kyoto that explores the end of the samurai era. Yakuza protagonist Kazuma Kiryu takes on the role of Sakamoto Ryoma, a man skilled with swords, guns, and summoning a tiger to attack enemies (although the actual historical figure Kiryu plays in this game may not have been well-versed in this last part). As with other games in the franchise, Like a Dragon: Ishin will also feature mini-games and Heat Actions for combat.
Like a Dragon: Ishin is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC globally in February 2023. RGG Studios has its own event, RGG Summit 2022, scheduled for September 14 at 3 p.m. :00 PT / 19:00 JST, putting it right before the 2022 Tokyo Game Show.
