Experience the latest war in Ukraine: a Russian military plane crashes into a residential building

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, has accused Russia of launching infrastructure strikes on a “very broad” scale.

He vowed that his military would improve on an already strong record of shooting down missiles with the help of its Western partners.

“The geography of this latest mass strike is very broad,” Mr Zelensky said in his late-night video address on Saturday, citing regions in western, central and southern Ukraine.

“Of course, we do not have the technical capability to shoot down 100 percent of Russian missiles and attack drones.

“I’m sure that little by little we’ll get there, with the help of our partners. Now we’re already taking down most of the cruise missiles, most of the drones.”

Ukrainian forces had shot down 20 missiles and more than 10 Iranian-made Shahed drones on Saturday, he said.

Air Force Command said 33 missiles had been fired at Ukraine; 18 were shot down.
