Elon Musk showed off a new humanoid robot at a Tesla artificial intelligence event on Friday, part of the chief executive’s effort to shape the public perception of the company as more than just an electric vehicle maker.
Mr. Musk first presented the vision of the robot, named Optimus, a little more than a year ago at Tesla’s first AI day. Then a costumed dancer appeared on stage. This time, Mr. Musk presented a prototype at the meeting that took place on Friday night in Palo Alto, California.
