FromSoftware has just released a new trailer for an upcoming free Elden Ring update that will be released tomorrow, Wednesday, December 7th.
This is a PvP-focused game update that will bring players together for battles in the many colosseums that make up the map, which is why it’s called the “Colosseum Update”. They just released a new trailer, which you can watch below:
According to the official press release about the addition, we have a bit of confirmation on exactly what modes will be added:
“The Coliseums of Limgrave, Leyndell and Caelid will open their doors, allowing players to engage in battles such as duels, free-for-alls and team fights.”
In the trailer, we see a traditional 1v1 battle at the start, but it progresses to players fighting each other and eventually a 3v3 team battle that goes far beyond anything the game is currently capable of.
Elden Ring has spent many months balancing all of its magic and weapon abilities in an effort to try and create more parity in PvP, which has turned out to be a huge part of the game and the core of the endgame once you’ve finished. done all in PvE.
There’s a theory that I personally subscribe to, that FromSoft is revealing this PvP update now and releasing it tomorrow, so it won’t be drowned out by a potential announcement this Thursday at the Game Awards. There are rumors and fervent prayers that this would be the stage where they would finally announce a major PvE DLC for Elden Ring. We’re way behind on the pace of past DLC announcements for FromSoft games, given that Elden Ring came out almost ten months ago now, but it’s obviously a bigger game than the previous ones. Elden Ring DLC is repeatedly billed as the “world premiere” at the Game Awards that everyone is waiting to see, and these days, with E3 gone, it’s pretty much the biggest place in the industry to debut stuff, outside of the first. PlayStation and Xbox holiday showcases.
Anyway, that’s the hope, but the hard facts right now are that this PvP update is coming tomorrow, so prepare your builds and find some teammates to take on the toughest PvP challenges in the game yet. It should be a lot of fun.
