His barrister Greg Walsh said Dawson, who is currently being held in Silverwater Prison, did not apply for bail in court today because he knew it would not be granted in the circumstances.

Dawson’s sentencing date has been set for November 11.

Walsh said he was also reading Judge Ian Harrison’s lengthy ruling to see if there were grounds for an appeal.

The court also heard today that Dawson had been subject to constant threats against his life in prison.

“He has been the subject of some serious death threats from various inmates,” Walsh confirmed.

He said Dawson “obviously needs to be watched very carefully.”

“I haven’t had a chance to talk to him at length, but I’m sure he’s still in shock,” she said.

“He seems to have shut down. He’s very, very sad about his situation, he’s worried about his kids, he’s worried about his loved ones.”

New South Wales Police today said the conviction had brought joy to the family of Lynette Dawson and to detectives from the Unsolved Homicide Unit Strike Force Scriven.

But a senior detective also said their work is not over.

“Beyond passing a sentence, there is still work to do for Strike Force Scriven detectives,” said Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty.

“By the very nature of working on the homicide team, we know that losing a loved one is never easy to deal with, but sometimes the pain can be even harder to overcome when they can’t let them rest .

“Our efforts and inquiries to find Lyn’s remains are ongoing, and we are once again urging anyone with information who can help us to get in touch.

“After a journey of more than 40 years, we look forward to giving Lyn’s family a chance to say goodbye.”

After his sentencing on Tuesday, Lynette Dawson’s brother called on Chris Dawson to finally reveal the whereabouts of her body, 40 years after her murder.
