Apple is conducting ground surveys with vehicles around the world to collect data to improve Apple Maps and Saskatchewan will be included.
According to a recent press release, Apple will be in various Saskatchewan communities from August 8th to September 30th. The communities expected to be visited are Assiniboia, Battleford, Estevan, Kindersley, La Ronge, Lloydminster, Maple Creek, Melfort, Melville, Moose. Jaw, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Weyburn, Wynyard and Yorkton.
“We may periodically review and re-collect data at some of these locations in order to maintain an up-to-date and high-quality map,” the statement noted. “Apple is also conducting surveys with wearable systems in selected pedestrian areas. Pedestrian surveys use a backpack system to collect data that can be used directly in Apple Maps, such as the Look Around feature.”
Apple also stated that the company is committed to protecting residents’ privacy while conducting these surveys. People can request that a face, license plate, or your own home be censored.
