Apple Watch Ultra battery life doesn’t impress Garmin

How long should a smartwatch battery last? The new Apple Watch Ultra claims up to 60 hours of battery life with its low-power mode enabled, but according to Garmin, that’s pretty much nothing.

The outdoor tech company tweeted Apple the day after it revealed the Apple Watch Ultra (as well as the latest iterations of the iPhone, AirPods Pro and other Apple Watch models):

Garmin said when it announced the Enduro 2 in August that “enhanced solar harvesting provides up to 46 days in smartwatch mode and up to 150 hours in GPS mode.” This compares favorably with Apple’s claim that the Apple Watch Ultra’s battery life can last roughly 36 to 60 hours.

Battery life isn’t everything, though, and MacRumors notes that the Apple Watch Ultra’s battery is being used up by a considerably larger screen and more advanced sensors than the Enduro 2.

The Apple Watch Ultra also, perhaps surprisingly, costs less than the Enduro 2. Apple’s latest and greatest smartwatch is priced at $799; Garmin’s costs about $1,099.
