Anne Heche is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since the car accident

Anne Heche has not regained consciousness since shortly after crashing her car in Los Angeles on Friday.

Initial reports on the actor’s condition said she was “stable” and firefighters said she had spoken to rescuers as they pulled her from the wreckage.

However, on Monday a spokesman for Heche, 53, said: “Despite earlier reports that Heche was stable, shortly after the accident, [she] He was knocked unconscious, fell into a coma and is in critical condition.”

Heche’s reps added: “Anne is in extremely critical condition at this time. She has a significant lung injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns requiring surgical intervention.

On Saturday, Heche’s publicist had said his condition was “stable” and his family asked for “thoughts and prayers”. Earlier in the morning, reports suggested Heche had been speeding down a street before crashing into a house.

That led to what the Los Angeles Fire Department described as an “intense fire,” which took several firefighters an hour to put out.

The occupant of the home escaped without injury but the building was deemed uninhabitable. A fundraising page has been set up to help the owner replace her belongings and house.

Neighbors next door told Fox News that the car had gone through the house. “The windows were broken, so I opened the back door of the car. She [Heche] he replied and said he wasn’t well so it was hard. I know they didn’t get her out of the car until the fire was pretty much out.”

Heche, who has a son, is best known for her roles in films such as Psycho, Donnie Brasco, Six Days Seven Nights and Cedar Rapids.
