Actress Anne Heche was critically injured Friday in a car crash into a home in Mar Vista, sources tell NBCLA.
The crash was reported shortly before 11 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Walgrove Avenue, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Police said the driver was speeding down a residential street and plowed 30 feet into a house. The Mini Cooper involved in the crash was speeding and possibly hit a curb before being thrown more than two feet across the front yard and into the house.
The homeowner was in the backyard at the time of the accident and was not injured.
A neighbor described what he saw after the driver was rescued.
“There was tons of smoke in the house. I think they used the crane to move the car to get the driver out. It was crazy.”
Humphrey said the car came to rest inside a two-story, 738-square-foot home that was built in 1952.
The crash resulted in structural compromise and a fire, Humphrey said.
“It took fifty-nine firefighters 65 minutes to access, contain and completely extinguish the stubborn flames inside the heavily damaged structure, and rescue an adult woman found inside the vehicle, who has been transported to an area hospital by paramedics from LAFD in critical condition.” Humphrey said.
