The discovery was made Thursday in Patagonia with scientists discovering one of the most formed skull remains ever excavated.
According to scientists, the new species is called Meraxes gigas and measures approximately 11 to 12 meters long and weighs about four metric tons.

University of Minnesota paleontologist Pete Makovicky told Reuters that the Meraxes’ skull, which is more than four feet long, has a series of distinctive bumps and ridges.
“Many of the bones in the face and roof of the skull were covered with bumps, ridges and furrows, which gave it a revolting appearance like a medieval gargoyle.”

The carnivore is believed to have lived about 90 million years ago in the Cretaceous period and formed the “therapists” of the carnivorous lineage.
The new species was named after the dragons in the Game of Thrones book series “Song of Ice and Fire.”
The Meraxes were believed to have some of the largest standing claws of all meat eaters and a powerful jaw with a mouth full of sharp six-inch teeth.
Although the new species is considered one of the largest meat eaters along with the Giganotosaurus, scientists say the Meraxes have unusually small arms measuring only two feet long.
According to scientists, small arms support the theory that most therapists rely heavily on the power of their large skulls to attack prayer instead of their small arms.
