Costa Rica, who lost to Spain 7-0 in their opening Group E match, now have an unlikely chance to advance. With two games to lose, Costa Rica and Japan have three points each. Spain also has three points and meets Germany, which is without a point
Japan controlled the ball 57 percent of the game and had three shots on goal, all of which were saved by Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas. The Japanese were also unable to capitalize on five corner chances.
