The 122nd U.S. Open begins Thursday with the national championship taking place at one of the oldest golf courses in the United States. The Brookline, Massachusetts Country Club was honored to host its fourth U.S. Open and the first since Curtis Strange defeated Nick Faldo in 1988.
These two game legends give way to new ones, as world number 3 Rory McIlroy begins his search for number 5 in the early hours of the first round. He will be joined by 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama and Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele in a pair of dynamite. McIlroy, however, is not the only man looking to make history. Brooks Koepka is trying to capture his fifth major championship and the third US Open. Koepka is one of the few headliners of the afternoon when he debuts alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Players champion Cameron Smith.
