David Beckham spent 13 hours queuing to see the Queen while she was in state.
The football legend, 47, wiped away a tear as he entered Westminster Hall to see Her Majesty’s coffin.
The former England captain joined the line to pay his respects at 1.45am (10.45am AEST) on Friday and kept a low profile in a flat cap.
It didn’t take long for the baddies to realize who it was and asked the star for a selfie.
When he entered the hall, he bowed his head and wiped his eyes.
Beckham later explained that his grandparents raised him as a royalist.
“So this day was always going to be difficult, and it’s difficult for the nation, it’s difficult for everybody around the world, because I think everybody is feeling it and our thoughts are with the family and obviously everybody here today,” Beckham. he told Sky News.
“Because it’s special to be here, to celebrate and to hear the different stories that people have to tell.”
He spoke of how proud he was to have met the Queen as England captain. “The most special moment for me was receiving my OBE. I brought my grandparents with me, who really got me into being a big royalist and fan of the royal family, and obviously I had my wife,” said the father of four.
“To take a step, to get my honor, but then also His Majesty, to ask questions, to speak, I was so lucky to be able to spend moments like this in my life, to be next to His Majesty.
“Because we can all see with the love that has been shown, how special he is and how special he was and the legacy he leaves behind.
“It’s a sad day, but it’s a day for us to remember the incredible legacy he left.”
The lines were so long at one point that the government had to step in and stop people from joining the queue, which stretches for miles across London.
The crowd finally caught a glimpse of Beckham, who respectfully posed for photos with fans before rejoining the queue.
Paying tribute to the late monarch last week, Beckham said: “I am truly saddened by the passing of Her Majesty The Queen.
“What an outpouring of love and respect we saw for the platinum jubilee for his life of service.
“The devastation we all feel today shows what it has meant to people in this country and around the world.
“How much he inspired us with his leadership. How he comforted us when times were hard.
“Until his last days he served his country with dignity and grace. This year she would have known how loved she was. My thoughts and prayers are with our royal family.”
