GOAL! Porto – Club Brugge 0-2 (Sowah 47)

The Belgians are in the land of dreams!

Bergwijn bounces down the right, peels Thiago and cuts back to Kudus, who doesn’t realize Salah is on him, so he takes a touch and makes a poor control. Liverpool then go straight up the other end and Jota, getting away from Alvarez, shoots wide.

And we go out everywhere again too.

…and in a few seconds, Bayern have given the ball away, Raphinha has taken a deflection.

We’re out in Munich again…

Half-time correspondence: “Van Dijk needs to stop thinking he can defend over Bluetooth and start making attackers afraid of him again by getting his hands dirty,” tweeted Orlando Moore, “especially when we have full-backs like Trent (which isn’t). exactly famous for his defensive skills).

At his age, it’s difficult to bring the same player back from an ACL injury, and he doesn’t have a stable partner next to him, or great protection up front. But I agree, he wasn’t physical enough when he allowed Kudus to get away from him.

Middle: Liverpool – Ajax 1-1

Liverpool dominated but Ajax held on well and found a brilliant equaliser. The second half should be decent.

Marseille 0-1 Eintracht Frankfurt

Middle: Bayern Munich – Barcelona 0-0

Barça had the better of a half with a belt. Gavi and Pedri are absolute money, and if Lewandowski was involved, his team could be out of sight.

GOAL! Marseille – Eintracht Frankfurt 0-1 (Lindstrom 1)

The atmosphere at the Velodrome rises to another level.

Matip nails Díaz, who has moved through the center, and finds Alexander-Arnold, free on the right. He cuts inside, works a shooting angle, takes a leather effort… but it’s straight at Pasveer, who saves and then saves the follow-up. “He did too well,” explains Steve McManaman in communications.

Gavi and Pedri set Bayern in motion, the latter taking a fantastic through ball to Lewandowski on the outside, only for his team-mate’s first touch to let him down.

“Thiago is so talented he could use you in a phone booth,” reckons Gary Byrne. “(Younger readers, ask your parents).”

Unlike Said Benrahma, who can, we are told, nutmeg a mermaid.

“Bayern faced my club Stuttgart this weekend,” advises Kári Tulinius, “and it was a bit strange. Their game felt precariously unbalanced. There was a moment, when they went ahead 1- 0, and Kimmich made an absurd dunk that led to a goal for Stuttgart. It was later overruled by VAR for strange reasons, and Bayern’s players didn’t seem at all surprised. The team is not used to that things don’t go their way, so they take unnecessary risks. Most of the time it works, but not always. The game ended in a draw, both of Stuttgart’s goals coming from Bayern mistakes.”

Yes, I suppose they can win the Bundesliga without being fully focused, like Man United in 96-97 or 00-01, but eventually they will discover themselves in Europe. I also think Nagelsmann is struggling to balance his side.

Saaaaved! Van Dijk dives to win a free header when Alexander-Arnold picks him out for a deflected corner, but once there he should have done better than steer an effort low…but too close to Pasveer , which makes a decent stop.

Watching Barça in Munich, I wonder, as I have for the past few months, if we are about to see a rise in Champions League standards. I think there are more good teams this season than at any time in recent years, and they all have brilliant strikers, but I’m not sure there are any at the back.

“Glad to see Mo is just starting to find his Mojo,” emails Colum Fordham. “The goal should give him the confidence to rediscover his inner Mo (I?). I’m also curious to see how Tsimikas steps into Robertson’s boots.

I think he’s a good player, and if Tsimikas played on the right, he still would have started tonight.

That goal wasn’t exactly coming, but Ajax have plenty of offensive verve and Liverpool aren’t that hard to score. Again his defense was turned by a runner and again Van Dijk allowed his man to get away from him.

WHAT A GOAL! Liverpool – Ajax 1-1 (Kudus 27)

It was all Liverpool but Ajax broke them apart down the left, Blind found Alvarez down the left and it eluded Alexander-Arnold. Pulls back for Kudus, pulling Van Dijk towards him as Bergwijn does well to get between them… then Kudus hits a glooooorous shot inside the near post and off the bar! What a talent! What a shape! What a game we have now!

Another fantastic outing from Alisson finds Tsimikas, high and wide as expected. His cross is also good, but at the near post, Salah can’t force a shot on goal.

My cover dropped, then came back to see Van Dijk knock in a cross, after a corner I think Diaz drilled with Pasveer rooted to his line. Then Thiago, who is doing some good directing here, sets up Jota for a shot that goes wide.

Wow, Lewandowski missed another chance! Bayern are struggling here and have sent Mazraoui on for Pavard who I think is injured.

GOALS! Liverpool – Ajax 1-0 (17 wrong)

He needed this, they needed it! Diaz flicks Alisson’s point into the middle and suddenly Jota has a man… and it’s Salah! He slides it in and, while the first touch is perhaps a little heavy, he also engages the keeper, allowing Salah to stretch in a shot that heads the ball inside the near post. It’s a very smart finish.

Eeesh, Gavi makes a good pass to Lewandowski’s run and his first touch is a lush one, sitting the ball up for a stretched volley… which he heads over the bar. I didn’t expect to see this.

GOAL! Porto 0-1 Club Brugge (Jutgla pen)

Wow! What a start Brugge has had in this competition.

I’ve read this before:

Boehly: “I think Tuchel is obviously very talented. He is someone who has been very successful at Chelsea. Our vision for the club was to find a manager who wanted to work with us. There are a lot of walls to break down at Chelsea.” #CFC

And really, dear: a football novice who sacked a Champions League-winning manager for showing insufficient deference to his football experience. Hey, ok mate.

Manuel Neuer, progenitor of football, passes straight to Lewandowski, but just when a goal looks likely, Upamecano does brilliantly to sprint back and put it away from the goal for a corner, which is now.

“I agree with Bassey,” emails Ronan Heffernan, “Shirley is destined for great things.”

Yes, he’s the man with the Midas touch. At this point, one of my colleagues had a terrifying nana who did not give a rabbit to express her avant-garde opinions, and about whom we sang Old Vera, she is the grandmother, the grandmother with the touch of rinsed Now what are you asking?

Meanwhile, Barca are at it in Munich, creating a chance for Pedri, who takes a lovely first touch on his man only to fire a shot into Neuer’s legs from 10 yards. It should have been 0-1.

Lovely delivery from Salah and Alexander-Arnold, who turns in the box to slide into the path of his teammate. But again, Ajax knock Liverpool out.

In Munich, the locals have had the better of the first exchanges. However, I’m excited to see once the game is over if Gavi and Pedri are good enough to dominate against Kimmich and Musiala, I think so, but Bayern have the edge at fullback and could deploy that to win the midfield numbers game

Liverpool started well, Thiago found Elliott down the right. He crosses to the back post, where Blind does enough, and Tsimikas fires over. At this point, Elliott looks like a very serious player, if not the type who can afford the kind of full-back play we’ve seen from Alexander-Arnold and Robertson over the past few seasons.

Salah immediately attacks from the right, but his low cross is headed down by Bassey. I’ve seen a bit of him over the past few seasons and he looks like a very smart replacement for Lisandro Martinez, quick, strong and smart.

“A silence impeccably observed by many but not all,” Darren Fletcher tells BT. For what it’s worth, I didn’t hear much noise, but there are undoubtedly people in Liverpool who feel the city has been let down by official bodies over the decades,

We’re away in Munich, while there’s a minute’s silence at Anfield.

Marseille police are already using tear gas, according to @gouffa83, in an attempt to prevent OM and Frankfurt supporters from getting close to each other. The start is still 2 hours.

God, the state of Bayern’s bench. I wonder what the plan is for Gravenberch, who is on the bench – he didn’t sign for that – and also if Goretzka is no longer considered a starter for the big game. I hope not, because he is a brilliant player and a top man, but maybe the injuries have taken their toll.

Here comes our teams…

“Daniel, you’re saying that Sporting scored a second time against Spurs as if that’s a bad thing?” asks Ian Copestake. “The intonation of the question indicated by my incorrect use of the question mark for a question is not . . .
