On inflation, Mrs. Truss points to the “massive shock to the world economy: it is important that we get inflation under control, but inflation is forecast to peak this year and decline thereafter”.
“We shouldn’t be doing that in the future, I think it’s really important that we get inflation down so we can help you get on the housing ladder.”
Patricia, a Waspi woman, says people in her situation feel “disrespected” and “undervalued”.
Will you reopen the case? Ms Truss replies: “I’ve had a lot of representations in my consultation in Norfolk about this, and I think that in the pensions and tax system we haven’t looked after women fairly and women have suffered. I think it’s a problem
“One thing I’ve said I’m going to do is overhaul our overall tax system to make it fairer for families, to make it fairer for people who are out of work to care for children and families . To be honest with you, and I have to be honest, in this particular case of the Waspi women I don’t think it was handled very well at the time… but I think where we are now it would be very difficult to go back.
