RCMP said officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired with multiple victims in the City of Langley and Langley Township.

Police found two men dead: one at Creek Stone Place, a supportive housing site in the 6400 block of 200 Street, and another at the Langley City Bus Loop near Logan Avenue and Glover Road.

A woman was found injured near 203A Street and Fraser Highway and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The suspected shooter was shot and killed by police, Mounties said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are actively investigating a series of shootings that have left two dead, one in critical condition and one with serious injuries,” said BC RCMP Chief Supt. Ghalib Bhayani. “At this time we do not know the motive for this fatal incident, or if there was any relationship between the deceased suspect and the victims.

After the shootings, a forensics tent could be seen at the Langley Bus Loop located at Logan Avenue and Glover Road near the MIssion Thrift Store.

One man, who identified himself as homeless, said he rushed the Langley bus after friends told him another homeless man had been shot in the area. “I saw an ambulance trying to revive the man,” he said.

The man asked that his name not be used for fear of retaliation from the shooter. “It’s very sad. I hope they can identify who this man is and tell his family.”

A white car riddled with bullet holes could be seen in the parking lot of a shopping center near 200th Street and the Langley Bypass. There is also a truck with a broken window on the lot, along with a second forensics tent.

A third area has also been cordoned off outside the Cascades Casino near Fraser Highway and 204 Street, not far from the Langley Bus Loop. Behind the police tape, under a tree was a shopping cart with what appeared to be personal items.

By eight o’clock in the morning, a small group of people had gathered on the cement benches outside the casino, a few hundred meters from the cordoned off site.

One of them, a middle-aged woman who identified herself to Postmedia as homeless, said that from this vantage point she heard a woman’s screams early in the morning, followed by the burst of gunfire

“It looked like he had been sleeping,” the woman said.

Police said the case remains an active investigation and asked the public to avoid: 200 Street and Langley Bypass; the Langley Bus Loop; and the Cascades Casino parking lot located at Fraser Highway and 204 Street.

There is a strong police presence in these areas.

At Willowbrook Shopping Center in Langley Township, a small section including the main entrance to T&T Supermarket and a TransLink bus stop was also cordoned off by police.

The public was alerted to the unfolding incident via an emergency alert sent to cellphones in the Lower Mainland.

The alert, sent out around 6:25 a.m., was issued out of an abundance of caution, police said. He warned of several shootings, including one incident involving “transient victims” in Langley Township.

The alert included a description of a man: Caucasian with dark hair, wearing a brown coat and a blue and green camouflage shirt. The man is also associated with a white car. “Police have interaction with (a) suspect,” the alert said. “It is unknown if there are other people involved at this time.”

About an hour after the alert was issued, a second notification was sent stating that the suspect is “no longer a threat.”

Jess Lee was on her way to work at Langley Bypass when her car was blocked by a heavy police presence on 200 Street.

At first he assumed it was a car accident. But after seeing police charging the area with rifles in hand, he knew another event was unfolding.

“There were at least 15 police cars gathered in one area,” Lee said. “Sure one was to kneel over someone, hold them down.”

While the second alert said police are still trying to determine if there was more than one suspect involved in the shootings, Langley RCMP said investigators believe the only suspect is now in custody.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called.
