“Why is Jeremy Clarkson so threatened by Meghan Markle?” This is the question explored by Harriet Williamson, editor of The Independent’s Voices Commissioning.
“It’s so upsetting to Clarkson and her ilk, the Piers Morgans and Dan Woottons of the world, that a beautiful, successful, articulate woman of color hasn’t quite swallowed a sustained campaign of bullying,” she writes. “Instead, it has held up a mirror to British society and what we see there is extremely uncomfortable.”

A reminder of what Clarkson has said so far
In an opinion piece for The Sun published on Friday (December 16), Clarkson wrote that she hates the Duchess of Sussex “at a cellular level” and wants people to “throw bits of excrement at her”.
“Everybody my age thinks the same way,” Clarkson added.
After the backlash, Clarkson wrote on Twitter: “Oh dear. I’ve just put my foot down. In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made a clumsy reference to a scene from Game of Thrones and that went wrong to many people. I am horrified that I have caused so much harm and will be more careful in the future.”
