Jessica Simpson has taken the rare step of addressing the ongoing scrutiny over her appearance.
The US singer, 42, took to social media with a lengthy message about “relentless” criticism, after fans’ fears intensified following her release last week – a video announcement for at Pottery Barn Kids.
She garnered thousands of comments about her weight loss, with one fan writing: “Something’s not right here,” while another said: “Is she okay?”
Apparently addressing the matter, Simpson posted a video of herself singing on Instagram along with a lengthy caption, explaining that she had spent time in her music studio to “melt down” to try to block out the “destructive noise.”
“As much as I’ve learned to block out the destructive noise…people’s comments and judgments [sic] It can still hurt deeply with its relentless reluctance “you’ll never be good enough,” Simpson wrote.
“The biggest thing I’ve learned over the past 5 years without alcohol as an escape buffer is that I CAN and ALWAYS get through it. I am capable of almost anything I care enough to think about.
“After standing on the floor right now with my voice and lyrics in my heart, I feel compassion for the hateful opinion that some people can effortlessly say with such intensity on social media or the media in general.”
Fears over Simpson’s health began with a selfie she posted in March, with many noting that she looked “skinny”.
And then, in April, she raised eyebrows over a video in which she looked “disoriented.”
The star put a clip on her Instagram stories at the time to plug the Flonase nasal spray, while also promoting the product with a photo on her page.
Users flooded the comments section of the photo, saying his eyes were “everywhere” in the video, as they expressed concerns about his “slurred” speech.
The Dukes of Hazzard The star has made some major lifestyle changes in recent years, having shed 45kg in six months following the birth of her daughter Birdie Mae in 2019.
She also gave up alcohol in 2017, sharing an “unrecognizable” photo of herself last year that showed her in the depths of her alcohol addiction, marking four years of sobriety.
“This person in the early morning hours of November 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself. I had so much self-discovery to unlock and explore,” she captioned the photo, which shows her without makeup and apparently crying while she was wearing a pink tracksuit.
“I knew that this very moment would allow me to regain my light, show victory over my internal battle of self-respect, and challenge this world with piercing clarity.”
The mother-of-three, who rose to fame as a singer at just 17, spends most of her time these days running her successful fashion line, The Jessica Simpson Collection.
