TV legend Leslie Jordan dies at 67

Beloved actor Leslie Jordan has died tragically at the age of 67.

The American Horror Story alum, who became a social media sensation during the pandemic, crashed his BMW into the side of a building in Los Angeles on Monday morning.

Jordan is believed to have suffered a medical emergency while behind the wheel, reports the New York Post.

The pint-sized performer, who stood just 4ft 11in tall, rose to TV fame in the 1990s with roles in sitcoms including Will & Grace, Hearts Fire i Murphy Brown.

In recent years, however, Jordan has gone bigger than ever, appearing in American Horror Story and gaining more than 5.8 million followers on Instagram, telling humorous stories about Hollywood with his signature Southern drawl.

In a heartbreaking statement, his manager said the mail: “The world is definitely a much darker place today without the love and light of Leslie Jordan. Not only was she a mega talent and a joy to work with, but she provided an emotional sanctuary to the nation in one of the more difficult than this one.

“What he lacked in height he made up for in generosity and greatness as a son, brother, artist, comedian, partner and human being,” his handler added. “Knowing that he has left the world at the height of his professional and personal life is the only consolation one can have today.”

Jordan’s viral fame landed him on CNN’s 2021 New Year’s Eve Countdown, where he rang in 2022 with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen.

He also landed a prominent role in the sitcom call me kat alongside Mayim Bialik. The show is currently in its third season.

Jordan, who was raised Southern Baptist, often sang gospel hymns on his Instagram account. Her final post came on Sunday when she shared a newly written inspirational song.

The beloved star, who published his memoirs last year How are you?: Misadventures and misadventures of a life well lived — was openly gay and widely revered as a queer icon.

Jordan was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1955.

Precocious and flamboyant from a young age, Jordan says he struggled growing up in a traditional family and conservative town, despite being supported by his loving mother, Betty.

Jordan faced more hardship at age 11, when his father, Allen, a major in the United States Army Reserve, died in a plane crash.

In 1982, the ambitious Southerner moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in show business.

However, he soon became involved with drugs and alcohol and by his mid-20s had been arrested several times. He later claimed that he once even shared a jail cell with Robert Downey Jr.
