Controversial Harry Potter author JK Rowling has said she is not worried about losing fans thanks to her huge cash flow.
Rowling, who has been called out repeatedly for making anti-trans comments, hit back at a Twitter user who criticized her on Thursday citing her fortune from the Harry Potter franchise, reports said. New York Post.
“How do you sleep at night knowing you’ve lost an entire audience to buy your books?” the person tweeted at the author.
Rowling indicated that she has no problem with insomnia.
“I read my most recent royalty checks and found that the pain goes away pretty quickly,” he said in a flashback.
Rowling’s net worth has been estimated to be between $650 million and $1.2 billion, according to Business Insider.
Fans rallied behind Rowling’s comeback.
“JK Savage,” replied author Matthew Loop.
Many were quick to support Rowling in the comments, stating the impact the Harry Potter series had on them, their children, or their students as young readers.
“I was a school governor in the mid 2000s getting boys to read was a MASSIVE teaching problem with no solution and then along came the wonderful @jk_rowling,” another user tweeted. “It’s hard to overstate that effect.”
Others, however, could not look past the author’s alleged transphobia.
“You singled out and vilified an extremely vulnerable minority group,” journalist Walker Bragman tweeted in response. “I can’t help but think about the kids who are struggling with their identity and just want to be accepted. You guys, with your massive platform, have made it harder for them. And that sucks.”
Rowling’s scandal with the trans community dates back to 2020 when she tweeted about sex.
“If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction,” he tweeted in June 2020, prompting the initial backlash. “If sex is not real, the lived reality of women worldwide is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to speak meaningfully about their lives. It’s not hate to tell the truth.”
Rowley has been labeled a TERF, an acronym for radical “trans-exclusionist” feminist, by critics for her beliefs and has faced fierce criticism for her comments.
Many of the stars of the Harry Potter films distanced themselves from his comments.
