YouTuber tests the ultra-durability of the Apple Watch with a hammer: the table breaks before the watch

A YouTuber has put Apple’s claims about the durability of the Apple Watch Ultra to the test by putting it to the test with a drop test, a jar of nails and repeated hits with a hammer to test the sapphire crystal glass.

TechRax, a popular channel for testing product durability, first tested the Apple Watch Ultra by dropping it from about 4 feet. The ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ was left almost unscathed, aside from a few dents on the side of the titanium casing from the drop. The ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ was then mixed into a pot of nail polish and once again left with no visible marks.

TechRax also tested the durability of the Apple Watch Ultra’s sapphire crystal display by repeatedly hitting it with a hammer. In testing, the watch withstood repeated hammer blows until it finally cracked after repeated blows, only after the table was damaged first.

Although the Apple Watch Ultra’s screen was initially undamaged, the watch failed to turn on after repeated shocks. The misfire could indicate that while the glass may not have broken at first, some internal components may have been damaged. Of course, the test isn’t realistic in representing a typical Apple Watch Ultra use case, but it may reassure some customers about the strength of the sapphire crystal display.

Apple claims that the ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ is its most rugged, durable and extreme Apple Watch yet, and aims to compete directly with Garmin. In response to the ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌, Garmin said it measures battery life in “months” not “hours.” The ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ starts at $799 and began arriving to customers this Friday.
